The Blair Witch Remake Project?

  TotalFilm

There's a casting call, a shooting schedule... But is The Blair Witch Remake a proper revisit of one of the greatest horror films ever made (yes, it is) or just a low-key side project? Original directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez have recently been talking up the possibility of a third Blair Witch movie - to patch the holes opened up by the disappointing sequel Book Of Shadows. But a casting notice seen by Slashfilm suggests that The Blair Witch Remake is more likely to be a first-time feature cheekily trading off the Myrick & Sanchez name - and, presumably, about to be legally slapped down by original studio Lionsgate. Still, though... With the recent success of Paranormal Activity, it'd be cute for Myrick/Sanchez to revisit the Blair Witch story as an ultra-lo-fi, under-the-radar thing... Maybe it's all an elaborate meta-hoax, with all the names changed. Or maybe this is all just wishful/witchful thinking...   Madness? Shrewd business sense? Time for a Blair Witch remake? Or is the original already perfect?

Kat Dennings in for Thor

  TotalFilm

Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist and House Bunny star Kat Dennings has been cast in Kenneth Branagh's upcoming adaptation of Marvel comic-book Thor. We know this because Natalie Portman told us yesterday ("I'm really excited. Kat Dennings is going to be in it and she's a good friend and an amazing actress.") Portman plays Jane Foster, who nurses Thor's human alter-ego Donald Blake. So which role might Dennings be taking? Heyuguys!' theory is that she's playing science intern and "overt wiseass" Marcy Lewis - as the connection to science... stuff would probably put her in contact with Blake/Thor. Hugh Jackman to play futuristic boxing robot

  TotalFilm

Ex-Oscar host and sometime movie star Hugh Jackman is to swap the Wolverine claw for, er, boxing gloves in Dreamworks' Real Steel. Jackman plays an ex-fighter - and struggling father - forced to improvise when boxing as we know it is banned and replaced with robot-on-robot bouts. He slums it for a while as a promoter until he discovers a discarded robot that always seems to win. Cue - it would seem - some kind of man/machine boxerbeast... Sounds great. Jackman's due a broad, bona fide action hit and it really is about time we saw small-scale, ideally lo-fi, robots hitting each other hard. Problem: it's directed by Shawn Levy, the mind behind Cheaper By The Dozen, Night At The Museum, The Pink Panther... Oh, and the budget is a relatively measly $80m. Jacko will have to cash in some of his hard-earned Hollywood kudos to steer the movie away from some fluffy father-son kiddy-fantasy with comedy-punch sound effects.   Good plan? Or are you just dying to see Jacko do just one more Wolverine. Say so in the Comments...
